It’s that time again, a New Year is upon us which means it’s time to start thinking about our New Years Resolutions. Our exceptions and ambitions for the New Year along with the challenges we know we have to face! Before I get to ahead of myself, lets take a moment to reflect on 2015 and everything that I’ve experienced …
Australia – Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Margret River
My year started off in the best way, I was living in Australia celebrating the New Year in Sydney. I would spend my days before work on the beach and nights with friends drinking cocktails. It’s not a bad lifestyle if you ask me.
New Zealand – everywhere!
Although, I knew that after 8 months living and travelling Australia I wanted to explore new places, in February I booked a spur of the moment trip to New Zealand where I spent 4 glorious weeks travelling both the north and south islands. I found NZ to be beautifully scenic, sometimes my view didn’t seem real!
Philippines – Manila, Puerto Princesa, Boracay
Before returning home to England I wanted to fit one more adventure in, I took the opportunity to have one last holiday with my friends. Discovering little hidden treasures and venturing out into the Philippines. What a beautiful place indeed, I was speechless with the breathtaking views! Read up on my experience here. Better yet don’t take my word for it, why not put it on your bucket list for 2016?
Greece – Kefalonia
After returning home in June I had the urge to travel again, I had indeed caught the travel bug! One of my friends I met in Australia is half Greek and French, she has a villa in Kefalonia where I was invited to go. It would be rude not to take Barbara up on her generous offer, so off I went to Greece for 10 beautiful days in the sun. Having a real Greek with me was very beneficial as she knew all the great places to be! It was an amazing holiday and would love to return to Greece to travel more of the islands.
Holland – Amsterdam
Yet again I started to feel that nagging urge to travel, I decided to book a long weekend away in Amsterdam. Originally I was going to travel alone, but my friend Barbara was interested so we met up and had a great weekend. We spent the time being tourist, museum going, picture taking and eating delicious food. Let’s just say I didn’t explore the “herbal” aspects that Amsterdam is famous for … Find out everything I got up to here!
Writing down all the amazing countries, cities and islands I’ve visited over the last year really puts it into perspective that I’ve had a fantastic year filled with adventure! I can’t wait to see what new and beautiful places I get to visit in 2016.
Farmwork – Margret River, Western Australia
The biggest new experience of 2015 would be when I decided to try something different … Farmwork. I worked partly as a Nanny in addition to Calf Raiser, these both were challenging job roles and completely out of my comfort zone. The days were long, the pay didn’t reflect those hours and sometimes you would wonder if its worth the time. At the end of the day I made it through 3 months of hard labour which was difficult on a mental and physically level. Would I do it again? – Maybe, it definitely gives you time to think and put your life into perspective and acknowledge what you need to do to get where you want to be.
Learning a new language
This year I wanted to learn something new, something I thought would be useful … After deliberation over a few different activities and classes I came to the decision to learn French. French has always been on my list, its a beautiful language. Now, I’m no expert but I’m learning and I will continue to develop my skills going into 2016.
At the beginning of the year I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a “career”, it’s a big decision that I still don’t believe I’m ready to make. Although when I returned home from Australia I did some temping as a Project Coordinator before returning to Equator (the packaging design company I worked for in Australia). I have a varied role of Receptionist, PA and Assistant to the Account Managers, I take on a lot of ad-hock projects and keep busy as I’m determined to succeed! All this hard work paid off as I was offered a promotion to Production Account Executive, which I’m due to start in the New Year and I’m very excited for this new chapter!
What to expect of 2016
It’s difficult to predict what will happen, I’ve found the unexpected to be the most exciting. To take every opportunity as it comes and overcome any challenges standing in my way. I don’t know everything but what I am certain of coming into the New Year is … I have a new job position and we’re currently in the process of moving house. Two things I look forward to taking on.
So let’s raise an invisible glass and toast to the New Year, I hope your 2016 is everything you want to it to be, whether your ambitions lean towards love, success or travel may you experience all you deserve! Happy New Year, let’s make it one to remember!
